Richard Stallman announced the GNU Project in 1983 with the goal of building a complete free, Unix-compatible operating system. That effort created foundational software and a durable technical and ethical framework. Its kernel-side work remains important: the GNU Hurd is a collection of servers that runs on GNU Mach, the GNU Project's microkernel.
GNU Mach and the GNU Hurd are real, working systems, but the larger operating-system vision remains unfinished. That gap is not a reason to discard the work. It is a reason to study it closely, preserve its history, and test what can be moved forward on modern hardware.
Ron comes to that problem from a distinct, practical background: self-directed work across software, servers, networking, embedded hardware, and physical computing. Respect for Stallman, GNU, and the Hurd's contributors does not require ideological or political alignment; it requires honest attribution and serious engagement with the system they built.

Project Dwarf Goats applies that position directly. Its published DG-M4 milestone demonstrated a physically networked, remotely interactive GNU Hurd system on Raspberry Pi 4/AArch64. That is the current verified public milestone—not a claim that the larger work is complete. Frontier AI is part of the development method: a force multiplier for diagnosis, experimentation, implementation, and systems work when paired with human direction and real hardware. It is used to build and investigate the system. The resulting Dwarf Goats system is not intended to require a cloud AI runtime in order to operate.
