  • Builder Log: Respect the Lineage. Advance the System.

Two different philosophies. Different tools. One unfinished operating-system vision—and one common technical goal.

Richard Stallman announced the GNU Project in 1983 with the goal of building a complete free, Unix-compatible operating system. The GNU Hurd is a collection of servers that runs on GNU Mach, the GNU Project's microkernel. GNU Mach and the GNU Hurd are real, working systems, but the larger operating-system vision remains unfinished.

Ron approaches that work from a distinct, practical and self-directed engineering background spanning software, servers, networking, embedded hardware, and physical computing. Respect for Stallman, GNU, and the Hurd's contributors does not require ideological or political alignment. It requires honest attribution and serious engagement with the system they built.

Respect the lineage. Preserve the credit. Challenge the assumptions. Advance the system.
Project Dwarf Goats applies that position directly. Its current verified public milestone, DG-M4, demonstrated a physically networked, remotely interactive GNU Hurd system on Raspberry Pi 4/AArch64. This does not claim that the larger work is complete.

Frontier AI is used during development as a force multiplier for diagnosis, experimentation, implementation, and systems work when paired with human direction and real hardware. The resulting Dwarf Goats system is not intended to require a cloud AI runtime in order to operate.

“I didn't just give frontier AI a problem. I gave it a laboratory.”
The common technical goal: advance the unfinished operating-system vision while preserving the lineage and credit that made the work possible.

Richard Stallman has no affiliation with Agentic Code AI or Project Dwarf Goats, and no endorsement is implied.
